Nuclear Transport Solutions has been officially launched this week, following the announcement of the new company in February 2021.

The company is part of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority Group which specialises in nuclear transport and logistics operations.

Last year the NDA decided to create a single nuclear transport division to clean up the UK’s earliest nuclear sites.

Direct Rail Services and Pacific Nuclear Transport Ltd are now operated by Nuclear Transport Solutions, delivering rail and shipping services.

Over 5 million miles of safe transport by rail have been completed since DRS was established in 1995.

Seth Kybird, Chief Executive of NTS, said: “We have created NTS to become the leading global provider of safe, secure and reliable nuclear transport solutions – building on the experience and capabilities of DRS, INS and PNTL to deliver great value for our UK and international customers.

“We’re proud of how we use our expertise to make the world safer and more sustainable. Whether that’s by supporting the clean-up of the UK’s nuclear legacy, using our high security shipping capabilities to support global security goals, or providing low-carbon rail freight solutions that takes more lorries off our roads.”

“This is our opportunity to build on this work and create a vibrant and profitable organisation with an exciting and challenging mission of national and global importance.”

David Peattie, NDA Group CEO, added: “Transport plays a vital part in the NDA mission to clean up the UK’s earliest nuclear sites. In NTS we have world-leading capability that will be at the heart of delivering our mission, while also using its expertise to provide commercial activities in the UK and overseas.”

Chris Connelly, NTS Deputy CEO and Rail Director, said: “NTS brings together a wide variety of knowledge, skills and talent into one organisation. It’s a fantastic opportunity and being part of it will make DRS stronger, more competitive and able to offer a broader range of services to our customers.”
