Train operator is offering suggestions of places in where people can get out and explore by train this month and take advantage of a range of travel discounts.

Some of the events happening in Suffolk in May that are easily reached by train include:

Walk ‘n’ Water, Sudbury & Great Cornard Riverside

Next Sunday, 12 May at Sudbury, walkers can take part in the Suffolk Walking Festival.

They will first join the River Stour Trust for a short boat ride to Great Cornard then walk back to Sudbury along the Gainsborough Trail.

Food and Drink Festival


The Beccles Food and Drink Festival on Saturday, 25 May promises plenty of artisan East Anglian food and drink stalls, world street food, cookery theatre, music, and children’s entertainment.

The Festival is free to attend, and as well as the region’s top food & drink providers, a Local Flavours mobile cookery theatre will provide an outlet where budding chefs and bakers can demonstrate their skills.

Beach Street Beer Festival

At on Friday, 24 and Saturday 25 May, the Hopster’s beer festival will be held in Micklegate Street.

Besides the obligatory craft beer and offerings from guest breweries, there will be street food and live DJs. Children and dogs are welcome and the pier and sea front are close at hand for everyone to enjoy.

Suffolk Show

With a history dating back almost 200 years,, the Suffolk Agricultural Association will hold the Suffolk Show in Trinity Park in on Wednesday, 29 and Thursday, 30 May.

Celebrating Suffolk’s rich heritage, culture, and industry, the show provides a memorable experience demonstrating the best of Suffolk’s agriculture, food, and crafts.
