A meeting at Worcestershire Parkway station saw a discussion regarding the plans for the Midlands Rail Hub. The meeting saw representatives from Midlands Connect and Great Western Railway, along with MP for Mid Worcestershire, Nigel Huddleston.
The meeting revealed how the pioneering rail project will transform rail travel throughout the Midlands, improving connectivity, bringing real benefits for those living in the West Midlands, South West, Wales and East Midlands
The ambitious scheme will see capacity increased with a further 2 million seats made available each year to support access to HS2 once operating. Birmingham Curzon Street Station will also offer an easy and smooth connection from Moor Street to the high-speed network, once operational..
The number of trains from Cardiff to Birmingham will double under the project, and will call at:
- Newport
- Gloucester
- Cheltenham Spa
- Worcestershire Parkway
Mr Huddleston’s constituents will also see faster and more frequent rail services from Hereford to Birmingham, as part of the project which will call at Droitwich Spa, once complete.
Nigel Huddleston, MP for Mid Worcestershire, commented on the plans:
“These proposals are so important for improving connections for the residents of Worcestershire. More services to Cardiff and Birmingham will create amazing opportunities for my constituents.”
“I support these proposals and look forward to the development of the Full Business Case.”
Sarah Spink, Stakeholder Engagement Lead at Midlands Connect, said:
“It’s great to be in Worcestershire today and to have the support of the local MP. Midlands Rail Hub proposals will benefit people living in Worcestershire and across the nation. We really want to crack on with the next phase of our plans.”
