Electric trains to be introduced between Barrhead and Glasgow Central

ScotRail will see its latest timetable introduced on Sunday the 10th of December and will see customers travelling on electric trains between Barrhead and Central.

The introduction of the modern Class 380 trains comes as part of the timetable changes, comes following the electrification of the route and will see more environmentally friendly travel options for passengers alongside the benefits of more reliable services.

Further changes in the timetable will see the Cathcart Circle get hourly services during the day from Monday to Saturday. This change will see twice as many services calling at:

  • Langside
  • Pollokshaws East
  • Shawlands
  • Maxwell Park
  • Pollokshields West.

The increase in services will also support improved connectivity for those travelling from other stations in south Glasgow.

Further changes will see 18 extra limited stop services operating between Glasgow and Edinburgh via from Monday to Saturday. This increase in service will see customers living in , West Calder and Shotts, provided with opportunities for faster travel with more convenient connections to Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Customers making journeys between Gourock and Glasgow Central on Sundays will also find more accessible and convenient travel options with more services introduced in order to support weekend demand with a new half-hourly service.

Train travel between Dundee and Inverurie will also see changes in the new timetable which will support improvements in service and reliability, especially for local stations between Dundee and Aberdeen.

Extra stops will also be added for travel between Glasgow Queen Street and Aberdeen, between Edinburgh Waverley and Aberdeen and will create a new direct journey for communities between Angus and .

A reduction in local services will be introduced as part of the new timetable for services in the northeast, however, other changes being introduced will see improved connectivity with Aberdeen, Dundee, Perth and Glasgow and will also see the number of journey options maintained.

Customers in East Lothian will also benefit from ScotRail’s timetable changes with Dunbar to Edinburgh services also calling at Wallyford in order to access the mobility hub alongside stops at East Linton once the new station opens.

Services between Inverness and will see a later service introduced on a trial basis in order to support customers in Moray. The new service will leave Inverness at 22.12. The 21.34 Inverness to Aberdeen service will continue to run as usual.

The introduction of the new timetable will take place during ScotRail’s current off-peak all-day fare trial which began on the 2nd of October and will run for 6 months.

Customers are advised to check their travel plans as the new timetable comes into operation on the 10th of December, as some service times may have changed. This can be done via the rail operator’s website, app or social media channels.

David Simpson, ScotRail Service Delivery Director, said:

“There is a lot of ongoing investment in our network with decarbonisation continuing, and improvements across the network. This new timetable is an important part of that.”

  1. I like the 2nd photo of the 380 at the “Ladies Mile” near Lenzie on the E&G. They were on that route due to the 385s not being ready.

  2. The Class 380 Desiro are the best trains to be built by Siemens for ScotRail. And it’s nice to see them to run to Barrhead and hopefully East Kilbride once the line to East Kilbride is electrified and Class 380s to operate on.
