At every station on the route there will be a checkpoint with marshals ready to keep everyone on track. There will also be information hubs pointing out local landmarks and telling stories of some of the projects and children that will benefit form the walk. Each walker will be provided with a fold-out map containing walk information, an event T-shirt, a pin, and will receive a medal at the finish line.

The Metropolitan Line Rail Trail is just one among many events being held to support Rail Aid 2023. A similar Rail Trail held last year along the route of the Elizabeth line route raised over £42,000, and the aim this year is to raise even more.

The route is all above ground and fully accessible for pushchairs and mobility aid users. It is suitable for individuals and groups, young and old, and dogs can come along too.

To take part it costs £20 to register and a pledge to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship. However, every penny raised will help the Railway Children charity reach and protect vulnerable children on the streets and railways of India, Tanzania and here in the UK.

There are a limited number of places, and they are booking up fast. Anyone wishing to take part sign up now at https://register.enthuse.com/ps/event/MetropolitanLineRailTrail
