Carstairs Junction Primary School’s new ‘garden’ classroom, which was funded by Siemens Mobility, is now open for use!

The outdoor classroom was officially opened on Tuesday the 22nd of March 2022 and was named ‘The Four Seasons Classroom’ by pupils.

The outdoor learning area provides an area for pupils to enjoy educational activities such as Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics which are also known as STEM subjects. The learning space will also aid the rail industry in supporting the children forward with successful careers.

Siemens Mobility provided funding for the materials and construction, utilising small and medium local companies such as CK contracts to deliver the project.

Jill Armour, Headteacher at Carstairs Junction Primary said: “We were delighted to work with Siemens Mobility on this concept. Students will benefit from engaging in interactive activities for STEM subjects this early on and develop their true interests.”

Campbell Braid, Operations Director Scotland, Rail Infrastructure for Siemens Mobility and Signalling Programme Director, Signalling Collaborative Partnership said: “As well as delivering this great new asset for the school, we were delighted to be able to support Scotland’s economy by contracting local SMEs to work on the construction.”

Carstairs Junction is an important section of the busy West Coast Main Line which connects Glasgow and Edinburgh to London.

Siemens Mobility is eager to invest in the local area as it is set to put in place the upcoming stages of the signalling element within the Carstairs Modernisation project which is a multi-billion pound project by the Scottish Government that will provide improvements for Scotland’s railway.

Siemens Mobility was awarded the contract for this project via Network Rail Scotland in 2021.
