The Bala Lake Railway has released an update on their fleet of Hunslet steam locomotives, based at Llanuwchllyn.
The running fleet of locomotives consists of three Hunslets, which is currently alternating between George B and Maid Marian. Winifred is serviceable but is having a rest in the Heritage Centre (which has been painted and cleaned), though Winifred has made an appearance recently on service trains.
Reserve diesel locomotive, Chilmark, has also found a new home temporarily in the Heritage Centre.
Alice is awaiting the fitment of its new boiler, which is part of the locomotive’s ten-year overhaul, so it will be a while until Alice hauls trains once again.
Holy War is also in the middle of a ten-year overhaul and is now down to her bare chassis in the Workshop.
Rob Houghton, BLR’s Chief Engineer, is attending to Holy War’s axle boxes and bearings when he is not on the occasional footplate stint.
This means that both Holy War and Alice are work in progress, and will remain in the workshop for the foreseeable future.
Like all other heritage railways, the Bala Lake Railway has been closed for a number of months, so has lost out of possible passenger income. If you would like to help the Bala Lake Railway in their Appeal, why not purchase a copy of RailAdvent’s DVD – £5 from each DVD/Bluray sale will go directly to the BLR.
