Bromham Road bridge, in Bedford, will reopen to motorists on Tuesday 9th June following work to improve the bridge as part of the Midland Main Line upgrade.

The road has been closed since June 2019 to allow Network Rail to demolish and rebuild the bridge at a raised height which will allow overhead wires to pass underneath.

This work will allow the line from London to Kettering and Corby to be electrified as part of the £1.5bn project.

Network Rail opened the footpath on the south side in April, whilst additionally opening half of one carriageway for cyclists.

From Tuesday 9th June 2020, pavements on both sides of the bridge will be open.

Although most of the work is complete, there is still some work to be finished, such as removal of the temporary scaffold bridge and final utilities.

Some of this work will take place overnight in July, which may mean further overnight closures.

During this closure, a diversion will be in place. Spencer Road will remain closed until August to allow work to be completed on the embankment.
