Avanti West Coast unveiled its Pendolino trains with face coverings to remind passengers of the new rules that come into effect today.
From today, Monday 15th June 2020, it will be mandatory for nearly all passengers to wear a face-covering on public transport in England to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
In Wales and Scotland, where Avanti West Coast also run trains, it will be strongly recommended to wear a face covering, though it is now mandatory.
To reinforce the face-covering message, Avanti West Coast has vinyl wrapped two Pendolinos with a yellow face covering, along with the message ‘Safe Travels. Wear a face covering.’
Some passengers may not be able to wear a face covering, such as children under 11 or those with breathing difficulties.
To further protect against COVID-19, Avanti West Coast is currently trialling a surface sanitiser onboard its Pendolino and Voyager fleet of trains. The disinfectant, known as Zoono Z-71, is sprayed inside carriages and only needs reapplication every 28 days.
Managing Director of Avanti West Coast, Phil Whittingham, said: “Nothing is more important than safety, so we’ve introduced these measures to give our customers the confidence to travel with us.
“We also need our customers’ help: please bring a face covering with you, buy your ticket in advance and avoid the busiest times if possible.”
