The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway has announced that a Direct Rail Services locomotive will be heading to their Mixed Traffic and Diesel Gala.

The KWVR have requested either a Class 68 or 88, the exact locomotive is yet to be announced.

The class 68 or 88 will be operating on Saturday only of the gala.

First built in 2014, the class 68 diesel locomotives have improved reliability and performance throughout the UK.

The Class 88s improved this even further, bringing the improvements of the Class 68s but with bi-mode operation with a pantograph. Class 88s were introduced in 2017 and are in use solely by Direct Rail Services.

The Class 68/88 joins Class 41 41001, two Class 73s, two Class 50s, Class 31 31163 and the home fleet of 25059, 20031, 37075, D0226 ‘Vulcan’, 32 ‘Huskisson’, Ivatt 2 41241, S160 5820, 78022, 75078, 43924 and more!

An excellent piece to write about, we are already very much looking forward to this gala!

I have had an interest in Railways for as long as I can remember. I am a member of a number of heritage railways and actively volunteer at 2 of them. I enjoy all types of railways, real life, model and simulations. I started RailAdvent in 2014 and am the main editor of the site.
  • I dont mind the fact that you have used my picture, but can you please correct the picture credit to myself. It is not Northern’s. Thanks in anticipation.
