Nexus, owners of the Tyne and Wear Metro, has announced that they will be providing services later in the evening for passengers travelling over the festive period.
On Christmas Eve, Monday 24th December, a weekday service is scheduled to run up until around 1830hrs, with an hourly service until 2300hrs. Services are set to run every 30 minutes through Newcastle city centre after 1830hrs.
On New Year’s Eve, Monday 31st December, a weekday service will also operate until 2200hrs then half hourly, and every 15 minutes in the city centre, until 2300hrs.
Additional trains are also being run to help accommodate crowds attending the Newcastle early evening fireworks display at the Newcastle Civic Centre at 1800hrs.

Chris Carson, Metro’s Service Director said:
“It’s a busy time for everyone enjoying nights out and events with their family and friends, which is why we are providing trains later into the night on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
“Metro is part of our region’s everyday life and is the most convenient way to get around, not having to worry about traffic and parking costs. We hope the extra services will help make life easier and allow passengers to make the most of the season.”
