Steam locomotive No.60009 Union of South Africa will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in London and Newcastle on Saturday 15th September 2018.
The A4 locomotive is on a special rail tour from London Kings Cross to Newcastle.
The steam locomotive will depart the London Kings Cross at approximately 07:55 am.
The railtour will then leave the London Kings Cross, bound for Newcastle, where it will steam through Finsbury Park (08:03), Potters Bar (stop at 08:17) and Welwyn Garden City (08:30) before stopping at Stevenage at 08:42.
After a 4-minute break, the locomotive will depart Stevenage for Newcastle, where it will pass through Hitchin (08:53), Sandy (09:03), Peterborough (stop at 10:10), Grantham (10:52), Newark North Gate (11:05) before arriving into York at 11:26.
Departing York at 12:43, the A4 Pacific will head through Thirsk (13:09), Darlington (13:38) and Durham (14:01).
The steam locomotive will arrive in Newcastle at 14:35.
At Newcastle, 60009 Union of South Africa is swapped for Deltic locomotive No.55009 Alycidon.
Departing Newcastle at 17:47, the train will take the same route back to London Paddington. The train will pass through Durham (18:01), Thirsk (18:37), York (19:03), Doncaster (19:38), Newark North Gate (20:05), Grantham (20:14) and Peterborough (20:34).
From Peterborough, the train will pass through Sandy (21:02), Stevenage (21:20) and Potters Bar (21:43) before arriving back into London Kings Cross at 22:09.
