The East Lancashire Railway has announced that steam locomotive No.4270 will be visiting the line for their Autumn Steam Gala.
The Heavy Goods locomotive will be visiting from the 19th October until the 21st October 2018.
The locomotives visiting is thanks to the Icons of Steam and the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway.
4270 is visiting subject to a final test runs as usual.
A brief history of 4270
No. 4270 was built in 1919. The locomotive spent most of its working life based near Cardiff. Excellent traction was had by these locomotives thanks to their 8 driving wheels and two leading wheels. They never saw passenger service due to their small water capacity.
4270 was withdrawn in 1962 and moved to Barry Scrapyard, where she stayed until 1985. It wasn’t until 2014 when the locomotive returned to steam after a 4-year overhaul. She can now be found in passenger service at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway.
The Autumn Steam Gala
The weekend will be full of steam trains thanks to visiting locomotives and the home fleet of locomotives. An intensive timetable will be in operation throughout the weekend.
More information will be announced on this event soon.
