The P2 Steam Locomotive Company have released a short update on the construction of P2 No. 2007 Prince of Wales, with working progressing well at the South Devon Railway (Engineering).
Tyre fitting for the locomotive is being completed using ex-Swindon Works tyre heating equipment.
A quartering machine is a form of horizontal borer which bores crank pin holes or turns the crack pins if they are already fitted.
This allows the setting to be the same on both sides and therefore means that the crank pins are consistent for all four wheelsets (providing the setting isn’t changed whilst changing the wheelset) – which is vital for the locomotive to run smoothly.
How is it looking?
