The Severn Valley Railway has announced that steam locomotive No.45231 ‘Sherwood Forester’ will be visiting the line in the summer.
The LMS Black 5 locomotive will be visiting the line, in Kidderminster, from mid-July to the end of September, and will be appearing in the Autumn Steam Gala as well as the railways Last Days of Steam Celebrations in August.
More announcements will be made on these events in due course, so stay tuned!
The locomotive is currently based at the Mid Hants Railway, where it has been for a couple of months.
A brief history of No.45231 ‘Sherwood Forester’
The Sherwood Forester was originally known only as No. 5231 – this was the number given by the London Midland and Scottish Railway Company (LMS). The locomotive was built in 1936 and spent her working life based in Manchester, working passenger and freight trains to North Wales along the North Wales coast route via Crewe, Llandudno Junction and Bangor.
