A brief history of No.45231 ‘Sherwood Forester’

The Sherwood Forester was originally known only as No. 5231 – this was the number given by the London Midland and Scottish Railway Company (LMS). The locomotive was built in 1936 and spent her working life based in Manchester, working passenger and freight trains to North Wales along the North Wales coast route via Crewe, Llandudno Junction and Bangor.
