The Severn Valley Railway (SVR)  has announced that a Direct Rail Services (DRS) Electro-Diesel Class 88 will be joining the line-up.

Class 88

DRS currently are the only operators of Class 88, having a small fleet of 10 locomotives.

They appear very similar to the Class 68s, this being due to both classes sharing the same body shell, among other components.

Being an Electro-Diesel, the Class 88 can either be powered by electric, using overhead wires via pantographs, or the onboard diesel engine.

Spring Diesel Festival

Over the past month especially, several guests have been announced for one of the best diesel events of 2018.

A Class 88 did visit the 2017 Diesel Spring Festival, being a popular guest engine.
