Next month’s Annual Steam Gala, held by North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR), will feature a full steam locomotive programme.
After recent fire restrictions, steam will be returning to the popular heritage railway on the 2nd September.
The Gala runs from 22nd to 25th September and will see over a dozen locomotives make an appearance.
On the list of guest locomotives is BR Standard 5 No.73156, visiting from the Great Central Railway in Loughborough, which will join LNER A4 No. 60007 ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’ and No. 85 Taff Vale Railway Class 02.
Also at the Gala is a number of events and activities including the Annual Steam Gala Beer Festival at Goathland and Levisham stations, trade stalls hosting railway memorabilia at Pickering Station, Levisham Station will have a demonstration of shunting trains and Grosmont Station will have its engine shed open.
Tickets for the Gala cost £126 for four days, with two and three day options available and single adults costing £45.
More information on the Gala can be found at: nymr.co.uk/steam-gala.
Laura Strangeway, Director of Corporate Services and Deputy CEO at NYMR, commented: “This summer has been a challenging one, with the dry weather sparking a number of lineside fires. The recent rain has reduced the fire risk sufficiently to allow us to bring steam back this week as part of a phased approach, guided by the North York Moors National Park.
“This also means that we can confirm that next month’s gala will live up to its billing and be a true celebration of steam locomotives.”
