Crich Tramway Village welcomes Royal visitor

held a special event on Wednesday 20th October and welcomed their patron, HRH Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester. HM Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire Mrs Elizabeth Fothergill CBE and Consort Mr Fothergill, Mayor of Amber Valley, Councillor David Taylor, and Consort Mrs Valerie Taylor, also attended the special event.

Tramway Museum Society members were the main focus of the day, along with latest projects and future plans which were showcased at the event.

The party was met on their arrival by the Tramway Museum Society Chairman Karen Rigg and President Ian Ross, and Crich Tramway Village General Manager, Dr Mike Galer.

The Duke was saluted when he arrived and left by two Lord-Lieutenant's Cadets, Cadet Colour Sergeant Claudia Gration and Cadet Colour Sergeant William Stelfox.

The latest tram restoration project, Newcastle 102, was officially launched by the HRH the Duke of Gloucester as he drove it onto the track from the Workshop, after a quick driving lesson from Ian Rigg Lead Instructor.

The Duke met members of the tramway and then he explored the Exhibition Hall where a century's worth of trams is on exhibit before having a go at driving the Liverpool 869.
