The final installation of the temporary exhibition at the National Railway Musuem has been launched.
The Innovation Platform exhibition looks to showcase technology and innovation on the railway.
The third season of the exhibition is ‘Communities’ and explores the role of the railways in keeping communities connected, how they changed to adapt people’s needs and how they drive innovation, especially how they make the railway more accessible for passengers.
The exhibition will run from March until August 2024, when sections of the exhibition will move and be displayed at Locomotion in Shildon.
Highlights of the exhibition include a digital display of Aubin, a passenger assistance app that was designed to help neurodiverse passengers with train travel, including journey information, accessible station detail and communication tools for the user.
Other features include a digital totem screen that incorporates British Sign Language to convey updates to people that are deaf or hard of hearing, and a system that uses artificial intelligence to alert operators of incidents in real time and warn in real time of people stood to close to the platform edge.
“We have included a range of objects in the final season of Innovation Platform to show the impact of technology on the railways but also how people interact with the railways in their community. The exhibition is an exciting opportunity to share new stories about the future of the railways as well as the past, and for us to test new approaches and ways of working with the rail industry.”
