has released images showing two female teenagers playing on a railway near station.

This has spurred Network Rail to urge parents in the area to speak with their children about rail safety.

Trespassing on a rail line is not only illegal but also extremely dangerous, as trains regularly pass Howden at 90mph, and being hit would be fatal.

Network Rail has launched their ‘You vs Train' campaign to encourage the public to be safe around railways and will be visiting schools near Howden to highlight the importance of track safety.

What did the officials say?

Dawn Sweeting, Community Safety Manager for Network Rail, said:

“There is never any excuse to trespass on the railway. It is not a playground and people need to treat it with the respect it deserves.”

“This type of behaviour is incredibly dangerous and can be fatal. Sadly, we have seen too many times the tragic consequences of children ignoring the warnings and taking risks that have resulted in terrible injuries or death. We are asking parents to speak to their children about the dangers and how important it is to stay safe.”

“We do a lot to highlight the dangers of messing around on and near the railway. We have a team of community safety managers who visit schools and engage with the community, as well as running campaigns, but we need everyone to do their bit too and take responsibility for their actions.”

  • These girls are just playing chicken. Not knowing how dangerous railway tracks can be either it’s electrified or not electrified. And yes trains do pass at high speed. Why do it. Every year there has been lots of trespassing and there’s stupid people about who just don’t seem to know the dangers of trespassing whilst there’s trains travelling at almost 100mph and on some major lines that trains do travel at 125mph.
