East Croydon, Redhill, Horley and Gatwick Airport wll also see an increase of two trains an hour.

Central London stations between St Pancras and London Blackfriars will also see an increase in trains from 11 to 13 per hour in each direction.

Thameslink is creating the new services by connecting Horsham to London Bridge services with its King's Cross to Peterborough services, through central London via Blackfriars, City Thameslink, Farringdon and St Pancras International.

What did the officials say?

Tom Moran, Managing Director for Thameslink and Great Northern, said:

“We are delighted to be introducing these improvements for our passengers, because we know there is strong demand for these direct services to central and north London on Saturdays as well as during the week.

“This will provide more travel opportunities for existing and potential new passengers.”

  • Great Northern could of ordered some of the new Desiro City trains to operate on London Kings Cross-Peterborough, Cambridge and Ely. Rather than using Thameslink Class 700 12-Car trains. Since the Class 717 came into service in July and replaced the Class 313 on the Moorgate-Welwyn Garden City, Watton-at-Stone, Hertford North, Gordon Hill and Stevenage. As they are still using the Class 387 and Class 365 on London KX-Cambridge, King’s Lynn, Ely and Peterborough.

  • What about Thameslink to add a new additional service from Cambridge to Brighton, Wimbledon, Sutton, Gatwick Airport and Horsham. And from Cambridge North to Horsham, Sutton, Wimbledon and Horsham.
