Alstom secures order from Poland for Traxx locomotives

has secured an order from the Polish intermodal transport group CLIP Intermodal for the supply of 13 third-generation multi-system locomotives.

Designed for use throughout the European corridor of France, Belgium, Luxemburg, , Austria and , the locomotive bodies will be manufactured at the Alstom facility at Wrocław in Poland and the Alstom site at Kassel in Germany will produce the units.

The contract includes the supply of the locomotives and two years of preventive maintenance during the warranty period.

These latest versions of the Traxx multi-system locomotives feature high operational efficiency, reliability, energy efficiency and accessible service, and haul heavier loads than other locomotives in the same class.

They have a top speed of 160 km per hour, and will incorporate the Onvia signalling system, which is Alstom's bespoke version of the European Train Control System () and enables the locomotives to operate across national borders countries and lines, in both ETCS and legacy system modes.

The contract with CLIP Intermodal marks our first delivery of locomotives to a domestic, private operator in the European France – Poland corridor.

Alstom's Traxx locomotives are based on a modular design enabling them to operate single or multi-country freight and passenger services from AC, DC and multi-system supplies.

They can also be equipped with ‘Last Mile' functionality, which allows them to operate on non-electrified lines in areas such as ports, industrial areas, and terminals.

Alstom has previously received orders for Traxx locomotives from PCC Intermodal in Poland, and Polo Mercitalia (FS Group) in Italy.

Following the expansion of our Intermodal Terminal in Swarzędz, the purchase of modern multi-system locomotives is another milestone in the development of CLIP Group. As our terminal has eight reloading tracks, with an annual capacity of over 1 million TEU, and our own fleet accounts to 500 intermodal wagons, it has been natural for us to invest in our own locomotives. I am convinced that Traxx locomotives will strengthen the position of CLIP Intermodal, contributing to the further development of sustainable and low-emission European transport corridors.

We focus on intermodal transport as it has huge potential, especially in the context of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The development of this type of transport is also the best response to the challenges that stand in the way of improving network capacity and traffic safety in transport.
