Saturday the 24th of February will see play England at Scottish Gas Murrayfield as part of the 2024 Championship with new travel advice issued by to support fans travelling to the match this weekend.

The game will kick off at 4.45pm and marks the Scottish national team's second home game of the campaign following a tense match with France earlier this month.

ScotRail is providing extra seats for trains operating routes in and out of this Saturday (24th Feb) including between:

The rail operator is also advising fans heading to the game to allow more time than usual for their journey to the game and more so for the return journey.

The advice comes because of the redevelopment of a building adjacent to station which has led to restricted access alongside a 50% reduction in capacity inside the station.

Unfortunately, because of this ongoing work, ScotRail will not be able to provide the usual queuing system, as access using the ramp at the rear station will not be accessible.

Rail passengers travelling from Haymarket will, therefore, have to use the main entrance which will lead to longer waiting times for trains home and will also see some customers redirected to Edinburgh Waverley.

Fans are being urged to travel directly to Edinburgh Waverley after the game in order to reduce their need to queue or face delays in making their journey home.

Alternative transport options following the game include:

  • Edinburgh Trams operate fast, frequent services from the stadium entrance and St. Andrew Square tram stop, which is only a short distance from Edinburgh Waverley.
  • Lothian Bus services (1, 3, 12, 22, 25, 26, 30, 31, and 33) also operate from Scottish Gas Murrayfield to Edinburgh City Centre.

ScotRail is looking forward to helping fans travel to Scottish Gas Murrayfield to watch Scotland take on England this weekend, and we'll be doing all we can to make their journey a seamless one.“

To support the event, we're adding more seats to trains to and from Edinburgh throughout the day, but customers should plan ahead as services are expected to be busy.

We'd also encourage customers to travel straight to Edinburgh Waverley to catch their train home after the game due to the limited access and capacity at Haymarket station.

  • I wonder if the ScotRail staff are going to enforce the no alcohol ban to the letter.I am sure their staff will confiscated and seek to prosecute all the alcoholic transgressions! What happened to the half hearted survey as to opinion about dropping, the COVID measure alcohol ban on ScotRail.Remember the lager louts will have their way and the rest of us, normal people who like the occasional drink will continue to observe the law and have our social experience marred by this silly ban.
