The Locomotive has announced that an assessment into 6201 Princess Elizabeth has begun regarding an overhaul.

The assessment is taking place in and could see the locomotive return to mainline action.

Back in 2022, the locomotive was set to haul a Northern Belle tour over the Settle to Carlisle line but was withdrawn from service due to a leaking boiler throat plate.

This is neither cheap to repair or easy to do so, and the locomotive was subsequently withdrawn from mainline service, meaning a loss in income for the society to pay for repairs.

The locomotive is now in the workshop being stripped down. Whilst costing for the overhaul wont be known until a full assessment is completed, the society want to complete the overhaul to make sure the locomotive is fit for use in the long term.

If you would like to donate to the society and help bring the locomotive back to the mainline scene, you can do so over on the 6201 Princess Elizabeth Society website.

  • I believe that 46203 has a similar problem. It would be nice to see her back in service too. Why not make two throat plates at the same time??
