Roundhouse Engineering reveals new diesel and steam model locomotives

Co. Ltd. of Doncaster has announced that for the New Year it has released new model locomotives featuring a Conway Castle diesel locomotive and , a steam locomotive.

Conway Castle

Conway Castle is based on an 0-4-0 diesel locomotive built in 1958 for the Royal Naval Armament Depot at Ernesettle in Devon. In 1958 it went to the Ffestiniog Railway where in 1981 it was rebuilt at Boston Lodge works with a Gardner bus engine. For a time in the 1980s and 1990s it was used for push-pull duties before transferring to the Welsh Highland Railway in 2000 for use in the yard at Dinas.

The model is equal in performance to Roundhouse Engineering's steam models., and technical specifications include:

  • 0-4-0 outside framed chassis with high quality 12V motor and precision made nylon worm and gear set.
  • Four-wheel drive with chain driven rear axle.
  • length 260mm, width 105mm, height 150mm, weight 2.75 kg.
  • Full remote control of speed and direction, and sound when fitted.
  • Working directional headlights.
  • Rechargeable NiMh batteries and fast charger for in-situ charging.
  • insulated wheels fitted as standard.
  • wheels adjustable between 32mm and 45mm gauge.
  • Fully glazed windows and removable roof to access interior.
  • optional sound system featuring engine sound and horn.
  • Minimum radius 2 feet.

Linda

Linda was designed and built in 1893 by the Hunslet Engine Company for use on the Penrhyn Quarry Railway where it worked until 1962 when it entered service with the Ffestiniog Railway.

In 1962 Linda became derailed, and the Ffestiniog Railway has named the site where it happened as ‘Linda's Leap'.

Roundhouse Engineering's version of Linda represents the locomotive in pre-1970 condition, and its technical specifications include:

  • Internal gas firing using ‘FG' type burner.
  • 0-4-0 outside framed chassis using Roundhouse inside-valve gear.
  • Exhaust enhancer.
  • steam regulator, safety valve, pressure gauge, displacement lubricator, gas regulator and reversing gear controls fitted as standard.
  • Water gauge and top up system.
  • length 460mm over buffers, width 105mm, height 130mm.
  • Weight: 3.66kg (with tender and radio control.
  • Full radio control available for both regulator and reversing valve gear; also available with manual control.
  • glazed cab windows.
  • Includes four-wheel tender with resin coal load.
  • Includes rechargeable battery pack and 240V charger.
  • wheels adjustable between 32mm and 45mm gauge.
  • Insulated wheels available at extra cost.
  • fitted with etched brass works plates.
  • Minimum radius 2'6″.
