Fault at Manchester Piccadilly affecting Cheshire, Lancashire and Scotland trains

are advising passengers to check before travelling as trains are delayed today due to a fault with the overhead wire equipment.

The fault means that fewer trains can run on some lines at the station.

Services between , Airport, , , and will be disrupted today whilst the issue is identified and resolved.

Overnight work to identify and fix some of the faults has been carried out but the fault with the overhead wires, which provide power to electric trains, has persisted.

Platforms 13 and 14 are some of the busiest at the station, with trains from Crewe and taking passengers to , , Cumbria and beyond.

Phil James, North West route director, said: “I am so sorry for the delay to passengers travelling to and through station yesterday and today.

“Our engineers are working hard to find the root cause of this fault and find a permanent solution as soon as possible. Please check Enquiries for travel updates.”
