A serious assault at Abbey Wood station has led to an appeal for witnesses and possible victims from British Transport Police (BTP) officers.

The assault took place on Friday 22 December 2023 at around 00:15.  The victim of the assault had been travelling on a train between Canary Wharf and when he saw a man acting aggressively towards a woman. He intervened in an effort to defuse the situation.

He then left the train at Abbey Wood.

The man involved in the aggression also left the train at the same station.

Upon leaving the station, the same man became aggressive to a group of women outside the station and the victim, once again, intervened in an attempt to calm the situation.  He was then assaulted by the man who has been involved in the aggressive acts.  Further investigation by BTP has led to the belief that an additional man and a woman might also have been victims of assault at Abbey Wood station.

A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with the above crimes.

If anyone witnessed these incidents, or if anyone was assaulted, they may have some information which could assist the enquiry.

If anyone has information, they can contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 with the reference 17 of 22/12/23.
