West Midlands Railway (WMR) is planning a number of timetable changes which will come into effect on Sunday 10 December.

Passengers are reminded to check any journeys if they are planning to travel after that date.

The number of trains running between Birmingham New Street and Liverpool Lime Street will return to a half-hourly pattern at peak times on weekdays and all day on Saturdays.

The present New Street to Crewe service will run between Stafford and only.  Better connection times at will lead to a reduction in overall journey time between Birmingham and The Potteries.

In addition, the final weekday evening departure from Birmingham New Street to Hednesford will be extended to run through to Rugeley Trent Valley.

Jonny Wiseman, WMR customer experience director, said:

“I would like to remind passengers to check their journeys from December as timetables are changing nationally.

“Journey planners have been updated so passengers are now able to check any changes to their route to make sure they don't get left behind.”

  • Very disappointing to see the Crewe service reduced to a shuttle from Stafford. What happens if the inbound service is delayed? I bet the connection won’t be held. So, no, this is not an improvement. Any direct trains between Brum and Stoke are now XCs grossly overcrowded, noisy, tatty Voyagers.
