The Malcolm Group has awarded Freightliner a 5-year contract to run overnight services from Daventry to Grangemouth.
The contract sees Freightliner operating the services 7 days a week and will see up to 36 platforms of domestic product moved in both directions.
The services began operating back on Sunday, the 3rd of September.
The contracted services aim to support The Malcolm Group‘s strategy to connect the Golden Triangle in the central belt of Scotland to create a 25% increase in the volume of goods being moved by the rail freight operator. Freightliner's use of lighter wagons will also bring greater efficiency to the supply chain.
The Malcolm Group is also making use of Freightliner's Omnia tool to gather real-time data such as:
- Running times
- Live track of containers
- View into carbon emissions
The contract marks the ongoing and future relationship between the Malcolm Group and Freightliner, which is a subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming Inc.
To celebrate the special relationship, CEO of G&W UK/Europe, Tim Shoveller presented the CEO of The Malcolm Group, Andrew Malcolm, with a special plaque on Thursday the 28th of September at The Donald Malcolm Heritage Centre in Linwood. Further to the plaque, a locomotive naming ceremony will also take place in the near future.
