ScotRail has issued travel advice for customers to plan their journeys ahead for those making their way to the Scotland vs. England men's match at Hampden Park.
Marking one of the oldest football rivalries in the footballing world, the first recorded meeting of the two teams goes all the way back to 1872. The upcoming match taking place on Tuesday the 12th of September marks the rivalry's 150th anniversary, with kick-off set for 7.45pm.
Customers travelling to Hampden Park from Glasgow Central will find extra train services with additional carriages supporting increased capacity both to and from Mount Florida and Kings Park, which are the closest stations to the ground.
Football fans are also encouraged to add extra time for their travel plans as services will be very busy as well as queuing systems operating at Glasgow Central, Mount Florida and Kings Park stations.
Passengers who travel regularly should also be aware that services heading to Mount Florida and Kings Park from Glasgow Central will be much busier than usual ahead of the game.
Queuing systems will see fans separated at Glasgow Central ahead of the game, as follows:
- Scotland fans will queue for travel to Mount Florida station on Glasgow Central Station's main concourse
- England fans will queue for travel to Kings Park station on the carriage driveway on Hope Street.
In order to support the queuing system, passengers are advised to purchase return tickets to either Mount Florida or Kings Park ahead, using the mTicket system via the ScotRail app.
Following the game, ScotRail is asking fans to make their way back to stations as quickly as possible, as follows:
- England fans should return via Kings Park station
- Scotland fans should return via Mount Florida station – please note that the queuing system is on Bolton Drive as customers cannot gain access to the station via Battlefield Road.
ScotRail prohibits the carrying and consumption of alcohol on its trains and in its stations.

“Our advice to supporters is to leave extra time for travel as trains are likely to be busier than normal. Buying tickets in advance through our mTickets system will reduce your queuing time.”
“Regular commuters who travel home from Glasgow on the line via Mount Florida and Kings Park should be aware that services will be much busier than normal, with fans heading to the match.”
