ScotRail advises fans to plan ahead for Scotland-England match

Football fans planning to travel to in to watch men's team face are being advised to plan their trips in advance.

is planning additional carriages on trains running between and the two stations closest to the ground, and .  A number of extra services will also be laid on for the special 150th anniversary heritage match on Tuesday 12 September.  The match kicks off at 7.45pm.

Although the match is a friendly, it is still a clash between the oldest rivalry in world football which has been in place since the two sides first met in 1872.

Those heading to the match are advised to allow extra time as services are expected to be especially busy

Supporters heading to the game, as well as regular users, are advised to allow additional time for travel as services are expected to be extremely busy.

Queuing systems will be in place at Glasgow Central prior to the match and at Mount Florida and Kings Park stations after the match has finished. Fans will also be segregated with Scotland fans queuing for services to Mount Florida on the main concourse of Glasgow Central while England fans will join the queue for trains to Kings Park on the carriage driveway on Hope Street. Customers can also save time by purchasing return tickets to either station in advance via the mTicket system on the ScotRail app.

Fans from both sides are asked to make their respective ways back to the station where they alighted the train.  Scotland supporters joining the queue at Mount Florida station should head to Bolton Drive as access to the station will not be available from Battlefield Road.

ScotRail is also reminding all travellers that the carrying and consumption of alcohol is prohibited on ScotRail trains and stations.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, said “We're looking forward to helping football fans travel by train to watch Scotland take on England at Hampden tomorrow night.

“It'll be a really special evening as we celebrate 150 years of the men's national team, and to help the event run smoothly, we're adding more seats and more trains to and from the national stadium. Our advice to supporters is to leave extra time for travel as trains are likely to be busier than normal. Buying tickets in advance through our mTickets system will reduce your queuing time.

“Regular commuters who travel home from Glasgow on the line via Mount Florida and Kings Park should be aware that services will be much busier than normal with fans heading to the match.”
