Evesham Vale Light Railway owners Adrian and Sandra Corke have agreed to the sale of the railway with David and Katherine Nelson-Brown after 12 years of running the popular attraction.
The 1st of March 2024 will see David and Katherine take over the running of the Evesham Light Railway. The couple also own the Perrygrove Railway in the Forest of Dean, which is also a 15-inch gauge railway and also supports inter-operability for rolling stock and people, making David and Katherine a perfect fit for the running of the two railways.
The railway was originally built back in 2002 by Jim and Helen Shackell, who ran it until Adrian and Sandra took over the reins in 2012, maintaining and developing it to a high standard.
Adrian and Sandra said: “We have been involved in heritage railways for many years, including Leighton Buzzard and the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre. Now retiring, we intend to travel more and continue our voluntary involvement in the sector.”
With many years of experience within the heritage railway sector, Katherine worked for the Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat Company until moving to Perrygrove in 2014 and David also spent his younger years volunteering with the Bodmin and Wenford Railway where he is currently the Managing Director.
David and Katherine reported: “We are delighted to be taking the reins from Adrian and Sandra of this well-loved narrow-gauge railway. Whilst we are sure we will put our own stamp upon it, the charm of this popular attraction will endure.”
The couple will continue to live onsite at Perrygrove and are on the lookout for a manager for the Evesham Vale Light Railway, and went on to say:
