Broken down freight train causes rail delays for Ipswich, Norwich and Bury St Edmunds passengers

is warning passengers of delays due to a broken down freight train this morning.

is expected until further notice, with a thunderbird locomotive heading from to rescue to the broken down train.

A limited rail replacement bus service is in operation, but some lines are blocked due to the train blocking the junction between and , where the railway branches off towards .

Services on the to , Ipswich to and Ipswich to routes are subject to disruption.

A Greater Anglia spokesperson said “Due to a Freight Train having broken down over a set of points between Stowmarket and Diss, where the line branches off towards Bury St Edmunds, services are subject to disruption.

“The Freight company and have found a suitable Locomotive that has run up to the train and is in the process of attaching to it and providing power, in order to rescue it and move it away from the passenger lines. The Locomotive is currently running from Ipswich towards the broken down train.”
