East Midlands Railway’s Smart Kiosks show real-time travel information

(EMR) is making travel easier at some stations across its regional network by installing Smart Kiosks that have screens which provide customers with real-time travel information, including service updates.

The company plans to install 29 of the Smart Kiosks across its regional network in , Nottingham, Lincolnshire, , and . Versions of the Smart Kiosk that are fitted with an information screen version are designed to fill a gap at those stations that currently do not have any way of providing customers with real-time customer information. They will provide customers with updates on train times and journey information such as expected train arrival and departure times.

So far, East Midlands Railway has installed Smart Kiosks that have real-time information screens at the following 14 stations across its network:

Smart Kiosks with full functionality allow customers to purchase advance and walk-up tickets as a printed barcode, instead of the old-fashioned orange paper tickets. They are also able to issue traditional walk-up fares to customers as well as a full range of national Railcard and local discounts.

The kiosks also feature Smart functionality, which allows customers to purchase a online and collect it from the machine. They also allow customers to take advantage of Advance Purchase fares for those passengers who are not travelling immediately and are content to have a little less flexibility in their travel arrangements.

Simon Pready, Commercial Director at East Midlands Railway, said: “Our new screens make sure that our regional customers have the main information that they need for their journeys and we hope they find them, as well as the other features of the Smart Kiosks, useful as they travel across our regional network.”
