Monday the 6th of February saw install a new temporary footbridge at station which will allow passengers access to platforms whilst major work is carried out to improve access.

As part of a £4.6 million scheme, Network Rail is providing improvements which will make it easier for those with reduced mobility or travelling with pushchairs, bikes or heavy luggage to access platforms 4, 5 and 6.

The programme of improvements will see lifts put in place at the station for the very first time and its historic footbridge will also see a makeover and strengthening in order to keep it in use into the future.

The impressive temporary footbridge took a week to put in place which means that passengers can more easily change platforms whilst the work is underway. Passengers requiring assistance are advised to speak with station staff and use the until the lifts are open for use this Summer.

The project has also obtained funding in order to refurbish the roof and its canopies and will also see the addition of tactile paving on platform edges which will support visually impaired passengers to travel by train with confidence.

Anna Weeks, Principal Programme Sponsor for Network Rail said: “We're working hard to bring lifts to Bridlington station for the first time ever, and crucially make it easier for everybody to catch the train to or from the coast with confidence.

“Opening the temporary bridge marks a real milestone for the project and will allow passengers to continue to use the station seamlessly while work picks up pace on the brand-new lifts.

“We're working with our partners at Northern to really transform other areas of the station to offer better, more modern facilities for passengers.”
