Powers sought to upgrade 7 level crossings in Cambridgeshire & Norfolk

A Transport and Works Act Order (TWAO) application has been submitted to the to seek powers to upgrade seven level crossings as part of the £194 million Cambridge re-signalling programme.

Seven level crossings, six in and one in need to be upgraded as part of the wider re-signalling programme. Additional land is required to enable the installation of new equipment and to upgrade the crossing to a full barrier with either obstacle detection or CCTV technology. The TWAO application seeks permission to purchase the additional land required at each level crossing site.

The seven level crossings set to be upgraded are:

The TWAO application was submitted to the Department for Transport on Friday, 5th August 2022, and a six-week period for the submissions of formal objections is now open until Friday, 23rd September 2022.

A copy of the TWAO application, all plans and other documents submitted with it, may be inspected free of charge at the following times and locations until 23 September 2022:

At Cambridge Central Library, 7 Lion Yard, Cambridge CB2 3QD:

  • between 09.30 and 18.00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays;
  • between 09.30 and 19.00 on Wednesdays;
  • between 10.00 and 18.00 on Saturdays;
  • between 12.00 and 16.00 on Sundays.

At Thetford Library, Raymond Street, Thetford, IP24 2EA :

  • between 10.00 and 19.00 on Mondays to Fridays;
  • between 10.00 and 16.00 on Saturdays and Sundays.
