Bridge in Glasgow’s southside to be demolished

Work will get underway to demolish the railway bridge starting from Saturday the 6th of August and comes as part of the latest stage of the to Electrification project.

The bridge on Nithsdale Road will be removed by as part of the Barrhead to Glasgow electrification project.

The huge project is also part of further plans which will see passenger services on 's railway decarbonised by 2035 and recently saw the first of several electricity feeder stations installed to supply the newly electrified lines.

The demolition will see work carried out around the clock and will involve the use of a crane and lorries to take away bridge materials from the site. The project will see the bridge raised and re-decked to provide the space needed to install overhead powerlines under the structure.

Since April, Nithsdale Road has been close to traffic and during the period of demolition will not be accessible to pedestrians for two consecutive weekends from the 6th to the 8th and the 13th to the 15th of August, whilst the work is underway.

Pedestrians will be able to cross the railway using a nearby footbridge which is located between Moray Place and Darnley Road. The footbridge will see temporary ramps put in place which will provide step-free access.
