The order will see 79 Coradia Stream trains which feature a max speed of 200km/h with the first set to be in operation on the Dutch national network before the end of 2022. NS has also ordered a further 20 Intercity Next Generation trains which will run in .

The NS network's new trains will mark a new era for Dutch public transport, featuring state-of-the-art innovation with a key focus on comfort which is a regular feature of Alstom's Coradia Stream family which has been hugely successful across Europe with approximately 900 trains ordered in Denmark, Germany, Italy, Luxemburg, Romania, Spain and the Netherlands.

The Intercity Next Generation trains for NS have seen Alstom's teams working hard to bring the very latest in technology whilst providing an excellent onboard experience for passengers. The trains include spacious and well-lit multi-purpose areas which are perfect for reading, resting, wheelchairs and bicycles alongside dedicated restrooms for people with reduced mobility. The trains also feature air-conditioning, Wi-Fi and a selection of charging options for mobile phones and laptops as well as LED reading lamps to bring a superb travel experience.

Meeting the very highest standards for interoperability, the Intercity Next Generation trains come with European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) signalling system, which will provide tighter, denser and more energy-efficient driving via digitally predictive signalling and driving commands. The European Rail Traffic Management System increases efficiency and reliability, especially for busy lines and will provide a smoother rail experience for passengers who will be able to enjoy more frequent and safe connections.

The Corardia Stream Intercity Next Generation train also marks a move towards sustainable mobility which is part of Alstom's main global objective with more than 95% of the components of the train able to be recycled. The train also features a modern traction system which supports regenerative braking which allows the motion of the train to be harnessed to power the brakes and can save up to 35% of a train's energy usage whilst saving wear and tear on the wheels. The Intercity Next Generation train also sees a cut in both inside and outside noise thanks to an improved aero-acoustic design and the use of components which cut noise emission and bogies which utilise pneumatic suspension.

  • These units have been in NL for some months, disguised with black vinyl, making training trips and the like. After the FYRA farce it is hoped these will fill the gap in the ‘High Speed’ service
