WATCH: Steam locomotive 45596 Bahamas heads through the Peak District!

In this video, RailView capture LMS Jubilee Class No. 45596 Bahamas on The Jubilee Spa Express whilst celebrating the Queens Platinum Jubilee Weekend after a remarkable 70 years on the thrown. 

To mark this unique occasion the tour's original name ‘The Buxton Spa Express' became ‘The Jubilee Buxton Spa Express' with a striking purple headboard and Union Jack flags aside of each of the Midland region lamps.

The video begins with Bahamas working up the steep 1 in 100 incline of Bank with the loco storming up the bank with very little assistance from the Class 47 diesel locomotive on the rear.

Next, RailView travel to Buxton to record Bahamas departing the stunning spa town, but first we briefly see Bahamas shunting into the sidings before being dragged back by the Class 47 into Buxton Station 

Following the shunt, we see what certainly was the highlight of the day with Bahamas climbing up the 1 in 66 gradient towards from a standing start at the station and sounding absolutely fantastic as she makes her noisy slog up the steep gradient, a real treat for all of the onlookers and marking one of the finest performances RailView have seen from the Jubilee, with the 47 on the rear only beginning to properly assist on the challenging climb after Bahamas had passed us!

For the final shot of the day, we see the Jubilee powering through Grindleford after making a stop at Hathersage as she blows off through the station to end a remarkable day with this wonderful locomotive!

  • A Jubilee really shouldn’t need a banker on the hope Valley line. It’s not a difficult route. It’s really struggling in some of the videos and it shouldn’t be struggling.
    A steam locomotive like a Jubilee should be performing much better than it did down the Hope Valley line.
