Rail colleagues from across the industry help raise funds for a Northamptonshire Hospice which cared for a sadly missed colleague Adam Winkworth.
Thursday the 28th of April saw colleagues from CrossCountry, Network Rail, East Midlands Railway and West Midlands Trains carry out a sponsored walk on the 14-mile Brampton Valley Way from Market Harborough to Northampton.
The walk started out at the hospice in Corby, with the teams holding collections at Corby and Market Harborough stations ahead of walking the route of the former railway line, which is now a walking and cycle path from Market Harborough to Northampton.
£4,000 was raised from the event and will be donated to the Lakelands Day Care Hospice, which receives no NHS or Government funding and is reliant upon donations and volunteers so it can offer free end-of-life care to local residents.
Lakelands Day Care Hospice is where former railwayman Adam Winkworth sadly lost his battle with cancer in 2015. Adam's family and friends also joined in with the walk, sharing memories whilst getting behind the fundraiser.
Speaking after the event, CrossCountry's Managing Director, Tom Joyner, said:

Having seen first-hand how the brilliant hospice team at Lakelands looked after my friend Adam and his family, I know how important it is that we support hospices across the UK in the communities where we and our families live”.
