Passengers who frequently travel with Great Western Railway are being reminded that because of tomorrow's strike action, no GWR trains will operate out of London Paddington.
There will also be no long-distance trains running on the entire Great Western Railway system.
This weeks ASLEF trains strike affects different train operating companies on different days of the week. On Wednesday 8 May there will be no services on CrossCountry, and limited services on Chiltern Railways and Great Western Railway.
Some very limited local services will run during the day on the GWR system, though many services will not be running.
Customers that are lucky enough to live near a line that does run a limited service and who decide to travel are advised to start and complete their journeys between 07:00 and 19:00.
Below is a list of lines that GWR services will operate on during Wednesday 8 May from 07:00 to 19:00 unless stated:
- Reading and Oxford
- Reading and Basingstoke
- Reading and Redhill (peak time only)
- Reading and Newbury
- Westbury and Swindon (peak time only)
- Cardiff and Bristol
- Exeter St Davids and Barnstaple
- Exeter St Davids and Exmouth (calling at Exeter Central, Digby and Topsham only)
- Penzance/St Erth and St Ives (09:30 to 12:30 and 15:30 to 19:00)
- Plymouth and Gunnislake
Passengers will still be able to travel to London Paddington by using Elizabeth Line services from Reading.
Alternatively, passengers can travel to London Waterloo from Reading using South Western Railway services. These services are expected to be extremely busy, especially during peak times.
During the strike day tomorrow, the opportunity will be taken to carry out some light engineering works on the fast lines between Paddington and Reading. This could affect other Train Operating Companies that also use the same lines.
After Wednesday, GWR services will resume for the rest of the week, but some services, especially late night and weekend services, will be subject to last-minute delays and cancellations, as the train drivers overtime ban will still be in effect until the end of the day on Saturday 11 May.
Passengers are reminded to check all their planned services before they attempt to travel during the remainder of this week, to ensure that they can complete their journeys.
Those who have already brought tickets for travel on GWR services tomorrow can get a full refund if they choose not to travel or passengers can amend their ticket to travel on the day before the date shown on the ticket, or on any day after Thursday 9 May until Monday 13 May.
Those that do travel and experience delays exceeding 15 minutes or more are entitled to Delay Repay compensation.
