Anderston station in Glasgow is currently undergoing vital work by Network Rail and is set to re-open on the 5th of June 2022
Network Rail's engineers are currently working on the city centre station which closed on the 13th of March to allow essential work on the entrance, booking office, concourse and platforms to be carried out.
The closure came as part of an ongoing 8-week closure for the Argyle line for the delivery of a £32m project which will see the repair and renewing of tunnels, bridges and tracks between Rutherglen and Exhibition Centre.
The project has been carefully designed in order to provide improvements for the line's punctuality, reliability and passenger experience for many years to come.
The Argyle line is set to re-open on the 8th of May with normal services resuming, however, trains will not be calling at Anderston station until the 5th of June.
The extended closure for Anderston station means that the most critical work will be completed earlier and will cut the overall time required to renovate the station by a massive 12 weeks and will finish in autumn rather than December.
When finished, Anderston station will include a lift which will offer increased accessibility, a remodelled booking office including modern finished to stairs, floors and ceilings. The improvement work will also include the exterior of the station which will feature a contemporary glazed entrance with better external lighting.
Kris Kinnear, Network Rail Scotland's capital delivery director, said: “We're making these improvements as part of our commitment to becoming a better railway for our customers.
“The enhancements to the entrance, booking office, concourse and platforms will result in an improved passenger experience in the station. And the new lift will make access to and from the platforms easier, particularly for those with mobility difficulties.
“By keeping the station closed until June 5, beyond the re-opening of the wider Argyle line, we're able to complete the work sooner, meaning passengers can reap the benefits of an improved station sooner.
“We fully appreciate that the closure of the station will mean customers have to plan ahead. During this time, I'd encourage customers to use other stations nearby and I'd like to thank them for their continued patience.”
