On Saturday, 19th, and Sunday, 20th March, the Yorkshire Wolds Railway (YWR) will be holding their annual model railway show at Driffield Showground.
Now in its 5th year, the show will take place in the Rix Pavilion at Driffield Showground, which is Driffield's largest events space. On both days, the show will be open from 10 am until 4 pm.
Organising such a large event is a challenge, but one that volunteers from the YWR thoroughly enjoy. Event organiser, Katy Bowser, said “We are really looking forward to welcoming people back to the Rix Pavilion for the first event of the YWR's 2022 season. We have worked really hard to bring 16+ layouts together under one roof ranging from Z to O gauge and from 1.5ft long to over 20ft long!
“Scarborough Trams and Settrington are just a few examples of the layouts that are based on locations near to us. When we planned the first show 5 years ago, we had no idea it would turn into such a popular event. Being able to extend the duration of the show to two days really gives people plenty of opportunity to visit and see the wonderful models on display.”
As well as the model railways, there will be trade stands from other heritage railways, tombola, and a range of refreshments.
Admission to the show is £5 for adults per day or £8 for both days, and £3 for children under 16 or £5 for both days.
The railway's first public running day for 2022 is on Sunday,17th April, when visitors can once more experience a ride along the 1000 ft. of track in the cab of locomotive Sir Tatton Sykes. Formerly known as Eddie, it is a diesel-hydraulic 0-4-0 shunter built for Shotton Steelworks in 1979 and was renamed in May 2015 in recognition of the generous support given to the railway by the Baronet of the Sledmere Estate.
The YWR is always keen to involve new people.
