The work on the new £15m East Linton railway station has now begun.
Subsequent to the successful completion of the preliminary work on-site, the foundation placement for the new platforms is about to begin.
The piling is the first phase of the construction, which will build up to the first opening of a station in more than half a century in the East Lothian village.
The station will have a 125 space car park and will be completely accessible with both a footbridge and lifts connecting the two platform stations for both pedestrians and cyclists.
The East Coast mainline station will provide a connection to Edinburgh Waverley for passengers commuting into the capital.
The station, which is planned to be completed by 2023, will support economic growth through the increase of public transport links and allow for residents to access more places for both work and leisure.
The station will hopefully bring about more investments and development opportunities in the future.
Transport Minister Jenny Gilruth said:

This project demonstrates our ambition to expand Scotland's Railway and our commitment to deliver all the benefits that new transport hubs bring to communities and to our Net Zero ambitions. As well as improving connectivity to the capital, the new station is a gateway for local people which will open-up greener end-to-end journeys for work, education and leisure. It is an exciting development that has the potential to transform life for local people and the communities the station will serve.”

Surprised by the lack of a roof or any kind of shelter for passengers. It’s a lovely day in the animation but for several months of the year I think wet and windy weather is more likely, and probably freezing cold in winter.
East Linton which is also on the East Coast Main Line is also waiting for a new railway station to be built.
Another ill thought out station which will block the ECML each time a train stops. The platforms should be built on loops to allow faster services to pass. There’s no excuse for such bad design these days.
