Transport for Wales has asked customers to check their journeys ahead of travel as more train services come into effect thanks to the new timetable that came into effect on Sunday the 12th of December.
The new timetable will be running throughout the Transport for Wales (TfW) Wales and Borders network and also saw the return of direct services between Crosskeys and Newport for the first time in close to 60 years.
Most services will be unaffected by the changes, however, customers should still double-check their departure and arrival times and also times of connecting trains.
Colin Lea, Transport for Wales Planning and Performance Director, said: “We are introducing more services across our network and making adjustments elsewhere from the 12th December. It's really important for customers to check their journey details ahead of travelling”
“As we welcome more customers back to our services, some trains will be busier than they have been for a while, especially in the busy period leading up to Christmas. At present social distancing is not a requirement, but face coverings are mandatory, unless exempt. For those customers who wish to travel on quieter services, they should use our Capacity Checker tool.”

TfW also wants to remind customers that the wearing of a face-covering onboard public transport is once again law in both England and Wales, unless exempt. Face coverings are also mandatory whilst inside stations which are enclosed.

Metro will be undergoing transformation work during the Christmas and New Year period as the network is quiet during this time. Customers are also being advised to check their journey ahead in case their service is affected by this work.
Essential engineering work will also be ongoing on the Barmouth Viaduct until Wednesday the 29th of December and will see rail replacement bus services in operation between Machynlleth and Pwllheli.
