Locomotive Services Group has released an update on the current overhaul of British Railways (BR) Standard Class 7 No.70000 “Britannia” at London & North Western Railway (LNWR) Heritage based at .

Since withdrawal from traffic in September 2020, when 70000's boiler ticket expired, the team at has been undertaking the overhaul of the locomotive back to mainline standard.

Most recently, this has involved lifting the boiler back into the rolling chassis of the engine using a gantry crane.

The Boiler Department has spent countless hours carrying out repairs to the boiler, with their work paying off with both hydraulic and steam tests being passed.

These tests are carried out with the boiler out of the frame, to allow Boiler Inspectors to examine the boiler and Boilersmiths to have easier access to fix any issues if they occur.

The rolling chassis and many components which make it up are is checked by the Mechanical Department, who ensure each part, big or small, is fit for mainline running.

Components such as the axle boxes for the coupled wheel sets are easier to examine while the boiler is out of the frame.
