The Locomotive Ltd have launched a fundraising appeal following a recent fault on their locomotive, London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) Princess Royal Class No.6201 “Princess Elizabeth”.

While undergoing an examination of the boiler before hauling a mainline tour, the Northern Belle, a leak in the boiler was discovered around the firebox near the throat plate.

As this meant the engine had to be withdrawn from traffic, the Society are organising for a boiler inspector to carry out a thorough examination.

In order for the inspector to do so, they have been asked for all the boiler cladding and superheater header to be removed.

Repair work will be needed, with the next steps to work out the scale of work to be done to return “Princess Elizabeth” back to steam.

To help the Society ensure they have the funds to carry out recommended work, they have launched an appeal towards the estimated cost of £165,000.

So far, over £1,000 has been donated, which the trust is very grateful for.
