During the coming weeks, Greater Anglia will carry out work to relocate the ticket office at Ipswich railway station.
The new ticket office is part of a £3m package of improvements at the station. Extra ticket machines are to be installed and space created for a new shop. Customer toilets on platform 2 are to be moved and refurbished, and the station rewired to provide modern, sustainable lighting and power.
The current ticket office will close at midday on Saturday 16 October, with the new one opening at 05.00 on Monday 18 October. While the ticket office is closed, customers will be able to buy tickets at the station's existing ticket machines and extra staff will be on hand to help. Customers can also purchase tickets before they travel, either online or via the Greater Anglia app.
The work is the second and final phase of a project to improve the station for customers. Three years ago, Greater Anglia invested £2 million in a host of improvements including completely refurbishing the existing foyer and ticket hall to create more space with additional ticket machines, creating a large airport-style waiting room, and providing more comfortable seats with plug points for charging electronic devices. More shops and retail outlets, including Greggs, were also opened.
In partnership with Suffolk County Council and Ipswich Borough Council, the station forecourt was revamped. The layout was much-improved, better walking routes for pedestrians were provided, bus interchange facilities were improved, and there was better segregation of access between taxis and drop off/meet and greet facilities.
Simone Bailey, Greater Anglia's Asset Management Director, said: “We're pleased to be starting the continuing this phase of work at Ipswich station.”
“There will be minimal impact to customers while the work takes place.”
“Around 3.5 million people usually use the station every year, so we're pleased to improve facilities for customers who are currently travelling and those who will travel again in the future.”

A new ticket office and building is also to be built at Wickford station since the old building was demolished and the extension of the platform to accommodate the 5-Car Class 720 Aventra trains operating on the Crouch Valley Line (Wickford-Southminster) service.
