WATCH: Steam Locomotive Duchess of Sutherland returns to Chesterfield

6233 Duchess of Sutherland made her way through twice on Thursday, the 21st of October 2021, for her first time on the mainline since the 15th of February 2020, some 20 months ago!

For the first leg of her journey, 6233 makes her way from Butterly MRC to Sheffield via Derby as part of a light test run hauling her support coach and a saloon as she coasts through.

The return leg of her journey sees the Duchess whistling and powering back through Chesterfield heading from Sheffield to Tyseley Steam Trust where she will be operating rail tours with Vintage Trains right through to the end of the year including:

  • 30th October on The Midland Bristolian to Bristol Temple Meads
  • 13th November on the Welsh Marches Express to Hereford
  • 20th November on The Lickey Incline (Afternoon Train)
  • 5th December on the Melton Mowbray Victorian Christmas Fayre with 7029 Clun Castle
  • 15th December on The White Rose to York

21st October would see 6233 travel through stations such Langley Mill, Long Eaton, Derby, Duffield, Chesterfield, Woodhouse, Sheffield, Dronfield, Alfreton, Burton-on-Trent, Tamworth, Water Orton & Small Heath

In this video, RailView captured the Princess Coronation at Chesterfield, Derbyshire, passing through at 12:13, 14 minutes early heading from Butterley MRC to Sheffield and passing through at 13:33, 11 minutes early heading from Sheffield to Tyseley Steam Trust.
