have completed a £2.5m project to refurbish the canopies at railway station.

The wrought-iron columns which supported the canopies needed some work to make them fit for future use.

Platforms 1, 2, 5 and 6 have had new glazing installed along with new timber fascia. The downpipes and drainage have also been renewed.

The inter-platform subway staircases have also had new glazing fitted and provides more natural lighting.

Closures of the platforms were kept to a minimum with close working between the project team and station operator Southeastern.

Network Rail Kent Route Director, Fiona Taylor, said: “The work at Orpington station has created a really good environment for passengers, with light falling on platforms, rather than rain.

“It's great to be able to offer people better journeys and improve the look and feel of the station.”

Southeastern Area Manager, Will Buck, said: “We always want to give people the best travel experience possible and these improvements at Orpington station have made a real difference.

“During any wet weather it's important for safety and comfort that there is shelter and dry space on the platform, this investment by Network Rail delivers that.

“I hope our passengers are pleased with the work undertaken at this important station.”
